Apple, Sorrel and Lettuce Salad

Apple, Sorrel and Lettuce Salad

It seems to me that sorrel isn’t something very popular in cooking in this part of the world.

But just in case if you were looking for some recipe using it, here is one: fresh raw salad with sorrel, apple and romaine lettuce dressed with lemon juice and honey.

If dressing seems too sour for you, replace some juice with water and increase amount of honey, that should do the trick.

Chicken with Mustard, Honey and Curry

Chicken with Mustard, Honey and Curry

Unusual combination of ingredients which produces interesting taste results: chicken pieces roasted under sauce made of mixture of melted butter, mustard, honey and curry.

This recipe is good choice for romantic or family dinner, leftovers can be reheated and served for lunch.

You can use chicken thighs (like I did), or drums, or a whole chicken sliced into portion pieces. Please note that drums will require less time for cooking.

Cranberry Sauce for Meat

Cranberry Sauce for Meat

Cranberry sauce seem to be one of traditional dishes served on Thanksgiving dinner.

Since I didn’t have many of these (being in US for about 4 years now and not having family here) I had to do a bit of research to find a recipe.

I apologize in advance if the recipe doesn’t look too traditional. Please, feel free to share yours in comments, I promise to try them out!

Red Wine Sangria with Peaches, Oranges and Lemons

Red Wine Sangria with Peaches, Oranges and Lemons

I think there are many recipes for sangria which use various ingredients, but they all are similar in one thing: usage of wine and fresh fruit.

Wine can be either white, or red, or rose; fruits can pretty much anything you have available. Some of sangrias include a bit of rum or brandy.

This recipe calls for red wine, oranges, lemons and fresh peaches. I also add cinnamon and cloves to my taste, but these are optional. And I don’t use harder liquor than dry wine.

Any type of dry red wine will work, just pick something not very expensive. If wine is too sour – add more sugar or honey or both.

Mulled Wine (Glühwein)

Mulled Wine (Glühwein)

I was unfortunate to catch a cold another day, and somewhere in between sneezing and sweating I reminded myself of mulled wine – probably the best drink to warm you up and clear your sinuses.

Mulled wine, or gluehwein (how it is called in Austria and Germany) or glintvein (how it is called in Russia) is a drink prepared by heating red dry wine with various spices and citruses.

This popular in Europe drink is often sold during cold season around Christmas time on open air markets and fairs – it really helps to warm up.

Glühwein is very easy to prepare, if you prefer – use whole spices instead of ground ones, that will make straining part much easier, however ground spices work just fine. Enjoy responsible!

Crepes Stuffed with Apple

Crepes Stuffed with Apple

For some reasons, I always cook a bit too much than we can eat at once, especially when it comes to crêpes.

So there are some times when I am wondering what to do with all those extra crêpes left from the yesterday.

Here is nice idea how else you can eat left over crêpes: stuff them with honey and apples – those will get you full fast, and because stuffing is pure apple – you will also eat good nutritious breakfast.
